Rescue Story :

Lolita was born in the municipal junkyard of Cozumel, a remote area deep in the jungle, far from civilization. During her first months of life, she lived alongside a group of people and a family of dogs. However, due to the poor living conditions, they were seized by Animal Control. The adult dogs were sterilized, treated for health issues, and then sadly returned to the junkyard. Meanwhile, the puppies, including Lolita, were taken to the local Animal Control Center.

Upon intake, a medical examination revealed that Lolita had suffered old, untreated fractures in her jaw and hip—injuries that had already healed on their own.

Unfortunately, the conditions at the Animal Control Center are unsafe, and the dogs housed there are constantly at risk. Due to negligence, Lolita and another dog were attacked by a group of dogs within the facility. Lolita survived, but the other dog tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Despite everything, Lolita recovered well, and Animal Control asked us to take her in to ensure she would no longer have to endure such dangerous conditions. Now, she is safe with us, waiting for the loving home she deserves.

Story and summary:

Lolita is a sweet, playful, and affectionate little dog. She can be a bit shy at first— hesitating for just a few seconds before deciding to approach new people. But her loving and playful nature always wins, and she quickly seeks attention and affection.

It’s clear from her behavior that she wasn’t used to human contact, cuddles, or love in her early life.

But now, every time she receives affection, she enjoys it as if she’s in heaven!

Seeing her discover and cherish these small pleasures is truly heartwarming.

Lolita is small in size but full of energy! She’s not hyperactive, but she absolutely loves to play.

The more playtime, the better! She gets along well with other dogs and greets new people and animals nicely. However, she can be a bit demanding when it comes to playtime—if another dog doesn’t want to play, she might get a little frustrated.

Recently, Lolita spent six nights at a dog boarding facility, and she was the happiest pup, having lots of playmates. In contrast, at our clinic, she only has Marley, a 5-year-old dog who isn’t as playful as she would like.

She would do great in a home with another playful dog, but she could also be an only dog—as long as her family includes her in activities and gives her enough

attention and exercise.

A Few Things to Know About Lolita:

Vocal and Expressive – Lolita has a voice, and she’s not afraid to use it! She barks, especially when bored or seeking attention. She doesn’t have separation anxiety, but she might howl a little when left alone at first, then settles down. A patient adopter who can handle some barking would be ideal.

Respectful of Her Environment – Lolita doesn’t destroy household items. She only likes to "destroy" her plush toys, which she enjoys tearing apart!

Very Clean! – She always looks for grass to do her business and avoids going inside the house.

Great on Walks and Car Rides – She walks nicely on a leash and enjoys her daily walks. She also rides well in the car with no issues.

Not Much Experience with Cats – She hasn’t been around cats much. She does bark at the ones outside our clinic’s fence, but she picked up that habit from another dog.

Loves Playing Fetch! – She enjoys chasing a ball and bringing it back.

Some Playful "Nipping" – She sometimes gently nips to get attention, but it’s

playful, not aggressive.

Lolita is a loving, fun, and energetic little dog who would thrive in an active home with lots of love and playtime. She loves treats, enjoys learning, and listens well—

though we haven’t focused much on formal training yet.

Condiciones médicas / Medical conditions:

- Treated for erlichia

- Slight wear in the hip joint (acetabular wear and mild flattening of the femoral head), consistent with her documented history of injury in the area.

- Grade I patellar luxation in the left knee. Upon physical examination, it was determined that Lolita has a Grade I patellar luxation in the left knee. The condition is asymptomatic and does not require surgery. It is primarily characterized by the ability to manually displace the kneecap, which spontaneously returns to its normal position.

Given her breed, size, age, and weight, it is unlikely to cause any issues. The recommendations are to maintain a healthy weight, provide balanced nutrition, and ensure regular, low-impact exercise such as controlled walks and swimming to support joint health.
